As Founding Director of Oasis UK, Joy worked alongside the Founder of Oasis, Steve Chalke, to establish Oasis in the UK as a group of organizations delivering education, housing, health, anti-human trafficking, and a wide range of local community projects. In this capacity Joy operated as Group CEO, following which she became Oasis Global CEO.
Joy has also worked extensively in the voluntary sector in the UK, with leadership responsibility in the YMCA for 10 years and, before that, worked in Employee Relations for Marks and Spencer, also for 10 years.
She has worked with government and the faith sector in the UK to agree and implement religion and belief discrimination legislation. Joy is currently a trustee of the Ozanne Foundation which works with religious organisations around the world to eliminate discrimination based on sexuality or gender and is also a member of the UK Women’s Faith Forum.
Valentina Rossi, a development practitioner with several years management experience of varied health sector portfolios first in India and later in Western-Africa. I have joined Oasis in the 2017 within the management team of the Welcome Project, a multi-sector national project addressing gender violence, education, social inclusion in Belgium among women of South-East Asian origin, trying to make sure that women can have their voice heard, their rights respected and that they are able to build a prosperous future for them and their children. Amazed by the long-term commitment Oasis puts in achieving its goal, well aware that time is a key variable to trigger positive change in the life of any individual, in love with the trusted caring relationships that Oasis develops with those who supports, with staff and volunteers, I felt that joining the board would be a great step to continue living my personal values and commitment towards a life more just for everyone, where we are all respected, valued and treated equally, no matter what, a world where a second chance is given to anyone. Development, philanthropy, social work has always been more than a job—it is an everyday commitment. I left the Oasis Welkom Project in 2020 but I am honored to have recently joined the board, in January 2020.
Hobbies ? Understanding – and fighting - global inequalities. Playing with my nephews, I grow in my self-awareness everyday through the endless love that I experience with them. I have been a passionate classical piano player and that will stay with me forever. Needless to say, I love traveling accompanied by good books, long walks and great projects waiting for me at the arrival !.
