Who are we ?

Present in Belgium since 2007, Oasis Belgium is a non-profit organisation committed to building stronger communities by supporting people who are too often excluded, overlooked, or living in vulnerable situations. It is part of the international Oasis movement, active in several countries and united by a shared vision and common values. The following sections show how this shared vision takes shape in Belgium through our values, vision, mission and actions.

Humility Honouring others while serving with humility.
Joy Being joyful and positive, and helping others be the same.
Honesty Being honest and acting with integrity.
Hope Staying hopeful in the pursuit of change.
Consideration Choosing to love others as you love yourself.
Forgiveness Being forgiving and committed to healthy relationships.
Self-control Practising self-control.

Our values

No matter who you are, you deserve to feel respected, included and supported, as everyone should. Alongside the people and communities that we accompany at Oasis, we build stronger and more inclusive communities through safe and welcoming spaces.

In Brussels, we do this by creating a women-only safe space open to all women, where women who are in vulnerable situations can find support shaped around their realities. In Beringen, we are rooted in local community life, with particular attention to older people, while also valuing the strengths of the wider community.

Relationships are at the heart of how we work. We stay present, build trust, and believe that people and communities can grow, heal and create change together, even when the journey is demanding. We bring these values to life through practical support, from safety and paperwork to legal guidance, informal adult education, and opportunities for connection. When another organisation is better placed to help, we guide you towards the right support.

These values take shape in our daily work through our nine habits, which guide the way we act, work together and build relationships with others.

Our vision

At Oasis we believe that everyone has the right to live with dignity, safety and hope, fulfilling their God-given potential. We also believe that this can only happen when people are part of friendly, positive and supportive communities.

We therefore work to help people overcome their challenges and to be included in communities that support them.

At the heart of this vision lies our symbol, the Circle of Inclusion.
It visually expresses our commitment to inclusion and justice and reflects our conviction that everyone deserves a space where they feel they belong, where they can thrive and grow within society.

Our mission

Faithful to our values and vision, we are committed to helping people and groups who are often excluded or insufficiently supported in our society to thrive. We believe that each person’s flourishing is built collectively, through safe, welcoming and inclusive spaces where people can find support, develop their capacities and regain confidence.

That is why our mission is to build, together with the people we support, Oasis staff and volunteers, stronger, more supportive and more inclusive communities.

With this in mind, we sustain two hubs in Belgium, each rooted in the realities and needs of its local context: the Brussels hub, where we support primarily women in situations of vulnerability, particularly in the face of domestic violence, human trafficking and exploitation, and, in some cases, their families, when they are confronted with undocumented migration or asylum procedures; and the Beringen hub, where we develop projects to address the social isolation of older people and the digital divide, while also supporting the emergence and recognition of talents within the local community.

Our actions

In Brussels, we support women from different backgrounds who are facing situations of vulnerability, particularly in relation to domestic violence, human trafficking and exploitation, as well as in contexts of undocumented migration or asylum procedures. As a first-line reception centre and victim support service, we provide legal, administrative and psychological support, as well as spaces for listening, support, information and training. Our team can offer support in several languages and adapt to other language needs where necessary.

In Beringen, our work has developed around inclusion and the fight against social isolation among older people in the city. To support this, we launched the Buurtbar initiative, the city’s mobile community café. We have also addressed the digital divide by developing digital advice points and laptop lending services across the city, known as DigiPunt.

Over time, our work has expanded to foster intergenerational connections among Beringen residents and to support the recognition and development of local talents, in collaboration with the City of Beringen and partners such as Arktos.
